Summer means sun, beach, and pools, but the same things—sun exposure, salt water, and chlorine—can fade the colour of your tinted lash or brows or make your lashes fall off prematurely. Not to mention the extra sweat and oil that can also be brutal to your lashes and brows.

That means your lashes and brows will need extra TLC this summer.

And that’s what this guide is here for! We’ll help you take extra care of your lashes and brows so you can enjoy the beauty treatment you just had, like eyelash extensions or eyebrow and eyelash tinting, for longer. We’re all about getting more sun and looking photoshoot-ready with our lashes and brows.

Here are some summer tips to keep your lashes and brows in perfect shape during the summer.

8 Summer Lash and Brow Tips

No water contact for 24 hours after your lash and brow appointment

We will not tire of reminding you that you should not get your tinted lashes and brows or eyelash extensions wet for at least 24 hours after you leave your lash salon.

Water causes the glue in your lash extensions to not set properly, which leads to the lashes falling off. It can also fade the tint of your lash and brows. Once the 24-hour period is over, soak away!

Whilst it’s already safe to dip in the saltwater or pool after the 24-hour period, it’s important to keep salt water and chlorine from sitting in your lashes and brows. So wash your lashes and brows with fresh water after every swim, comb through your lashes with a reusable lash wand, or pat dry to remove excess water.

Keep your lashes and brows clean

During hot and humid weather, our skin tends to produce more oil and sweat. Sweat and oil can break the adhesive bonds in your lashes. They can also wash off the colour of your tint way sooner than you’d like.

Be sure to clean your lashes and brows regularly to get sweat and oil off them.

Avoid exposure to extreme heat

Basking under the warm glow of the sun is one of our favourite summer pastimes. But the sun can also affect the retention of the eyelash extensions and the quality of your brow or lash colour.

With that, you want to keep direct sunlight to a minimum. Or wear a hat or shade yourself under an umbrella if you’re out in the sun for a long time.

Use oil-free makeup and remover

If you have oil-based cosmetics and makeup removers, it’s time to let them go. We’ve already mentioned how oil can weaken the bond of the lash glue and cause the tint to fade faster.

So please use oil-free and water-based makeup and remover.

Keep away from waterproof mascara

Waterproof mascara is ideal for summer because it does not easily wash off with water or sweat. But we don’t advise using it every day.

Waterproof mascaras are tough to remove, and the continuous rubbing or tugging at the lashes and around your eye area can lead to damage. And even with the best makeup remover, it still leaves traces of it on your lashes, which is very unhealthy.

In this case, water-resistant mascaras are a better alternative to waterproof ones. Water-resistant mascaras contain fewer harsh ingredients and are easier to remove, but they do just as good a job as waterproof mascara. However, the only issue is that it can’t withstand a day of swimming at the beach or pool.

If you want darker, longer, and more defined lashes without the hassle of mascara, eyelash extensions might be for you.

Eyelash extensions are waterproof (no more smearing for you) and will stay intact throughout your summer activities. Learn more here or visit our lash salon to get those summer-perfect lashes.

Eat healthily and stay hydrated

Our diet affects the growth of our lashes and brows more than we know. Foods rich in biotin, vitamin A, vitamin E, and fatty acids, among other nutrients, are lash and brow superfoods.

Nuts, for example, have high levels of omega-3 fatty acids, which nourish hair follicles and promote hair growth. In other words, it can keep your lash and brows stronger and healthier. Other foods include avocados, sweet potatoes, salmon, eggs, and oysters.

Let’s be clear: There is yet no research suggesting that water promotes hair growth or prevents hair loss. However, drinking enough water has advantages for your hair, lashes, and brows.

For example, water helps our bodies absorb vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients from our food. That includes the nutrients your lashes and brows need. So, keep yourself hydrated.

Use nourishing serums

Nourishing serums contain vitamins such as panthenol and biotin, peptides and oils that can strengthen and moisturize lash and brow hairs. They help prevent existing hair from breaking and falling out, so your lashes and brows appear fuller and thicker.

Apply sunscreen on the eyebrows

If you want to make the most from your eyebrow tinting, make sunscreen your best friend.

Remember that sun exposure can fade the brow’s colour. Applying sunscreen over your brows keeps the sun’s harsh rays from penetrating, making your eyebrow tint last longer.
